Fastnet day 3 - onboard update from Mike

Onboard Update from Mike - Fastnet race

Day 3 - A nice ride...

It’s been a bit of a frustrating 36 hours here on Team Pindar, yesterday should have been our day in this race to have had a crack at the lead, but for some reason it just didn’t seem to happen. Every boat we came up against we seemed to be gaining on and then boats that where out of sight and out of our control we would then lose… all pretty frustrating, it certainly seemed that the dice wasn’t running hot for us. In the early hours of this morning Safran, Artemis and us where battling it out all in pretty close contact for who was going to lead around the rock (Fastnet), only for us and Safran to sail into a hole and BT came from around 2 miles behind to sail past both Safran and ourselves, with only Artemis escaping out of the leading pack.. Just one of those moments.

For us being fully crewed I thought it was going to be pretty important to beat the 2 handed boats around Fastnet with a decent jump as for sure the weight on the run versus us being able to work the boat harder was going to be an interesting little experiment. As I guessed though Artemis and us have had our hands full with BT and Safran respectively (and still are in fact) as we race down towards the Scilly Islands.

We are having some wonderful sailing though, spinnakers up and these boats surfing at speeds of up to 20 knots, very hard not to love. Life on board is great, the team have been working hard and even though the waitress, when we where having lunch the other day, guessed it was Phil that had the “Full fat” coke as she put it, he hasn’t wasn’t offended and has done an incredible job with the food, we are eating like Kings.

Should be our last night tonight so lets see what last bit of excitement the Scillies and then our approach to Plymouth can throw at us. For sure we will keep throwing everything at this.

Fingers crossed for us.

Cheers

Mike
