Mike Sanderson's ABN AMRO ONE first into Cape Town
Wednesday, 14 December 2005
Mike's team ABN AMRO ONE sailed to victory in the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race as they crossed the finish line below Table Mountain in first place on 1st December 2005, 49 miles ahead of second placed boat, ABN AMRO TWO. The victory puts ABN AMRO ONE at the top of the leader board with eight legs remaining. The eventful first leg, which saw two other entries retire from the leg during the first 24 hours, was action packed onboard ABN AMRO ONE. Having experienced a fire onboard and a broken steering column after starting from Spain in November, ABN AMRO ONE also broke the world monohull speed record, covering an incredible 546 miles in 24 hours.
