Voiles de St. Tropez

Mike and the team on Mari-Cha IV are competing in the world famous Voiles de St. Tropez this week. They started the week with a difficult day, only 5 - 6 knots of wind which meant the mighty 140 foot boat struggled against the smaller boats. However as Mike commented " It was tough conditions, but no real disappointment as we know that this is not what the boat was designed for - we will always compete to the best of our ability in every race, but our main objective during this short course racing is always experience to speed up our performance on the ocean. " Day 2 and 3 saw a change of fortunes for the mighty Mari-Cha IV with line honours on both days. However it was not all plain sailing, on day 3 the team had some gear failure with the spinnaker halyard which could have ended their race but fantastic crew work and quick thinking (which included hoisting Justin up the mast super fast to sort it out..) meant the team finished over 10 minutes in front of Pyewacket who came in second. Today is a lay day so the team will spend some time enjoying St. Tropez and getting the boat ready for the remaining days racing.
