1976: Introduced to sailing at the age of five, Mike first raced at his local sailing club in New Zealand

1988: Became a sailmaker at North Sails in New Zealand

1993 – 1994: Won the Whitbread Round The World Race as trimmer aboard New Zealand Endeavour, skippered by Grant Dalton

1995: Mainsheet trimmer for the Tag Heuer America’s Cup campaign, skippered by Chris Dickson

1997 – 1998: Watch captain and sail coordinator aboard Merit Cup finishing second in the Whitbread Round The World Race

October 1998: Watch captain onboard Mari Cha III, skippered and owned by Bob Miller, which broke the Transatlantic Record

July 1999: Won the Admirals Cup onboard Mean Machine, skippered by Bouwe Bekking
December 1999 Broke the Sydney-Hobart passage record onboard Mari Cha III, skippered and owned by Bob Miller, by 19 hours

February 2000: Mainsheet trimmer for Team New Zealand America’s Cup campaign, skippered by Dean Barker

October 2001: Won the Bermuda Gold Cup as mainsheet trimmer onboard an International One Design (IOD) yacht, skippered by Peter Holmberg

Year of 2002: Won the Swedish Match Tour, also ranked as World number one

March 2002: Won the Steinlager Cup as mainsheet trimmer aboard Peter Holmberg’s MRX Match racing boat

April 2002: Won the Congressional Cup as mainsheet trimmer aboard a Catalina 37, skippered by Peter Holmberg

2002 – 2003: Mainsheet trimmer for the Oracle BMW Racing America’s Cup campaign, skippered by Peter Holmberg

October 2003: Helmsman onboard Mari Cha IV, owned by Bob Miller, which shattered the transatlantic record by over two days and became the first monohull ever to sail over 500 nautical miles in 24 hours

July 2004: Joins TEAM ABN AMRO as skipper of ABN AMRO ONE in the 2005/06 Volvo Ocean Race

June 2006: Wins the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006 as skipper aboard ABN AMRO ONE. His third Volvo Ocean Race / Whitbread Round The World Race, and first as skipper

November 2006: Wins the prestigious ISAF World Sailor of the Year 2006 Award

March 2007: Appointed Team Director, TEAMORIGIN™
